Help Now
Help Now is a simple starting point for collectors, families, and loved ones who may be concerned about collecting, breaking, spending, or related behaviors. You don’t need to know whether it’s a “problem” to reach out – if something doesn’t feel right, that’s reason enough to explore support.
Whether you’re looking for immediate crisis resources, free peer support, professional help, or simply a place to better understand what you’re experiencing, we’ve made it easy to find the appropriate next step. No judgment. No labels. Just clear pathways to support when you need them.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis or thoughts of suicide or self-harm, call or text 988. For an immediate emergency, call 911.

Not Sure If It's A Problem Yet?
You don’t have to know. If collecting, breaking, buying, selling, or spending is becoming difficult to control, help is available.
Start Here
- I’m experiencing an immediate mental health or emotional crisis: If you are thinking about suicide, self-harm, or are experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988. If you or someone else is in immediate physical danger or experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

- I need help with alcohol or substance abuse: Find a local AA meeting or find a local NA meeting.
You Don't Have To Be Sure
Any of these is reason enough to reach out:
- You spent more than you intended.
- You’re hiding purchases or spending.
- You keep trying to win, pull, flip, or sell your way out of losses.
- You’ve tried to stop or cut back and haven’t been able to.
- Collecting or spending is affecting your finances, relationships, work, or wellbeing.
- Someone you love is struggling.
- You’re simply worried about where this is heading.
What Can I Do Right Now?
Create some distance between the urge and the purchase.
When an urge to buy, bid, break, or chase feels intense, try urge surfing: rather than immediately acting on the urge or trying to force it away, notice it and give it time to pass. Urges often rise, peak, and eventually decrease like a wave. Pause, step away, and observe what you’re feeling without making a purchase in that moment.
Remove saved payment methods. Step away from live breaks or auctions. Turn off purchasing notifications. Consider blocking or restricting shopping apps. Reach out to someone you trust. If appropriate, establish mutually agreed-upon spending controls. Creating even a small amount of time and friction between an urge and an action can give you an opportunity to make a more intentional decision.

I'm Worried About Someone Else
Worried about a family member or friend?
You don’t have to know exactly what they’re experiencing to start looking for help.
The modern collectibles hobby can be difficult to understand from the outside. Breaks, rips, slabs, comps, chases, hits, bounties, razzes, and other terms may be completely unfamiliar, even when they’re playing a significant role in your loved one’s life. The Modern Hobby Guide and The CMD Hobby Dictionary were created to help families and loved ones better understand how today’s hobby works, the language being used, and the experiences someone may be navigating. Understanding their world can be an important first step toward having a more informed and supportive conversation.
