Collectors MD is proud to announce the launch of The CMD Foundation, a new nonprofit initiative dedicated to advancing awareness, education, prevention, support, and recovery for individuals and families impacted by compulsive collecting, overspending, gambling, gambling-adjacent behaviors, and related behavioral health challenges.
To support this next chapter, The CMD Foundation has partnered with LOHAS through its fiscal sponsorship program, providing the infrastructure needed to begin accepting charitable contributions and expand the Foundation’s long-term impact.
Since launching in March 2025, Collectors MD has grown into a national movement focused on helping individuals navigate the increasingly complex relationship between collecting, spending, gambling-like mechanics, and mental health. Through peer support meetings, educational resources, industry partnerships, public awareness efforts, and recovery-focused programming, Collectors MD has created a space where conversations about collecting-related harm can take place without shame or stigma.
The launch of The CMD Foundation marks an important milestone in that work. The Foundation’s mission is:
“To advance awareness, education, prevention, support, and recovery for individuals and families impacted by compulsive collecting, overspending, gambling, gambling-adjacent behaviors, and related behavioral health challenges. The CMD Foundation works to reduce stigma, promote healthier relationships with collecting and consumer activities, and create accessible pathways to support for those navigating financial, emotional, and psychological harm.”
Through the LOHAS fiscal sponsorship model, The CMD Foundation can accept tax-deductible donations and pursue philanthropic funding opportunities while supporting educational initiatives, research, public awareness campaigns, strategic partnerships, and expanded recovery resources. The structure also provides flexibility to grow both charitable programming and broader mission-driven initiatives.
The CMD Foundation will be guided by a leadership cohort that brings together lived experience, recovery advocacy, behavioral health expertise, and community leadership to help shape its strategic direction and long-term impact.
From the beginning, Collectors MD has maintained that collecting itself is not the problem. Collecting can provide joy, nostalgia, community, identity, and meaningful connections. At the same time, modern collecting environments increasingly incorporate elements such as randomized rewards, livestream commerce, social reinforcement, financial speculation, scarcity-based marketing, and high-velocity purchasing experiences. While many people engage with these environments responsibly, others may experience emotional, financial, and behavioral consequences that often go unrecognized.
The CMD Foundation was established to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and expand access to support for individuals and families affected by collecting-related harm. Its goal is not to oppose collecting, hobbies, or the communities built around them. Rather, it seeks to acknowledge that some individuals experience real emotional, financial, and psychological challenges within modern collecting environments and to ensure that meaningful support and resources are available.
As awareness grows around the intersection of collecting, compulsive spending, gambling, and behavioral health, The CMD Foundation aims to serve as a catalyst for collaboration among collectors, families, clinicians, researchers, recovery advocates, hobby businesses, and public health organizations.
Collectors MD is deeply grateful to LOHAS for its partnership, guidance, and support in helping bring this vision to life.
This is only the beginning.
Collect With Intention. Not Compulsion.
